9-1 How are air dryers classified?

Air dryers are classified into three types: absorption (deliquescent), adsorption, and refrigerated dryers, each with unique features and applications.

Answer: Air dryers can be classified into three types according to the production method: absorption (deliquescent) dryers, adsorption dryers and refrigerated dryers.

(1) In absorption (deliquescent) dryers, compressed air is forced to pass through desiccants such as dry chalk, solid magnesium chloride, lithium chloride or calcium chloride, which react with moisture to form an emulsion that is discharged from the bottom of the dryer.

(2) Adsorption dryers are divided into simple adsorption dryers (disposable) and regenerative adsorption dryers (automatic circulation). Regenerative adsorption dryers are often used in daily life, and simple adsorption dryers are often used in small laboratories. Adsorption dryers are widely used. Among them, regenerative adsorption dryers are divided into heatless regenerative adsorption dryers and heat regenerative adsorption dryers.

(3) Refrigerated dryers use the characteristic that the partial pressure of water vapor in compressed air is determined by the temperature of the compressed air to cool and dehydrate.
